The Cruise Convert

So a little about me and how I became a cruise convert. I am 32 and live with my Partner Paul. We love food, glamping and of course holidays! We live in a small village on the Yorkshire/ Lancashire boarder in the UK.

I am a cruise convert! I decided it was time to finally start my blog. I have always had an interest in writing or blogging but my doubts always crept in that I wouldn’t be able to do it and I hadn’t found the right subject for me to really get stuck into, until I found cruises.  Writing certainly doesn’t come easy to me but I am up for the challenge as I want to share my experiences and start my new hobby.  I have always been an anxious traveller so I love to research before I go anywhere. I love looking at reviews, finding menus, searching hashtags, the list goes on.

So where did it begin… Paul asked me to book a cruise for our first holiday together in 2017 and I couldn’t believe what he was asking me. A cruise! All I could think about was black tie dinners and a ship full of OAPS.  This did not sound like a good holiday for me. I just wanted a sun lounger and a good book.

After a lovely holiday in Cape Verde, I realised that actually we both needed a bit more adventure and Paul finally convinced me that a cruise would be a good idea. I would still get the relaxation of reading my book in the sunshine but mix in sightseeing and adventure.  I really wanted to go to Croatia, It was high up on my list of countries I wanted to tick off and I think binge watching Game of thrones certainly helped us decided that Croatia had to feature in the cruise.  With Croatia as a starting point i decided it was time to start my research.

As I mentioned earlier I am a nervous traveller but I have learnt that the reward will always out way the stress before I travel!  The Cruise critic became my new best friend and I studied reviews, tips and the forums. I watched a couple of you tube videos but I didn’t realise at the time how many YouTube videos are out there on cruising. Paul is the complete opposite and is very much what will be will be and would rather have everything as a surprise. He still can’t quite understand why I am trawling through YouTube videos just to look for a dinner menu but that’s how I work.

Our first cruise was on the Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the Seas. It was a 7 night Greece and Croatia cruise. It ticked a lot of boxes for us and I will explain why in a future blog post.  The first night on board I fell in love with cruising and I was kicking myself that I hadn’t found it sooner. I shouldn’t have fallen for those typical stereotypes that come to mind when you talk about cruising, I realised that cruising is for everybody. Even now when I mention I am going on a cruise, I get asked why you are too young!

So on this blogging journey I am going to share my tips, opinions and stories of all things cruise. If you would like to come along with my journey then please subscribe to my YouTube channel Cruise Convert and follow me on Instagram
